Overview

The Dual Diagnosis Group is a cognitive-behavioral therapy group for offenders with a chronic mental illness who also suffer from substance abuse/dependence. It is a curriculum-based recovery group, designed to help members overcome the challenges of living a dual diagnosis.

This group provides support and education for all members. Emphasis is placed on the importance of medication as a tool for recovery, as well as on symptom management. It provides education regarding the impact that substances may have on mood and the decision-making process. Our goal is to help individuals attain a healthy lifestyle through the practice and application of skills provided.

Eligibility

Individuals with chronic mental illness as well as substance abuse/dependence.

Referral Process

The offender must be sentenced to a ComCor, Inc. residential correctional program. A referral to the treatment group is made through the case manager and staffing team. Each referral will be screened; acceptance into the group will be determined on an individual basis, taking into account the level of risk and need.

Expectations

Group members will be expected to take an active roll in their recovery through participation in the group process, practicing and mastering the skills provided, and applying them toward a healthy non-criminal lifestyle.
