Whenever someone gets involved in the criminal justice system, life spins out of control. Individuals are not taking responsibility for their problems and are lying to themselves and the people who care about them the most. It does not matter what got them into the system. The question is, what are they going to do now? As we say, “It is what it is.” We at ComCor are committed to helping individuals change. We try to provide a safe environment to help each person take positive steps in learning behavior that will keep him or her out of trouble. Here is what some clients have said. Some were able to make the needed changes; others made a start but didn’t learn all that they needed … this time.

Client Statements on Substance Groups

" This was a good program that taught us the skills to lead clean, sober and criminal-free lives if we'll just have the desire to change and use the tools we were taught."

"I really learned some things and acquired more tools to ensure sobriety."

"I got a lot out of this class that I know I have to use in my life."

"These classes would not be sufficient without the right kind of instructors. [These] are exceptional teachers and make the recovery process an achievable reality. This is by far the best treatment I've had."

"I am learning that with the tools and techniques I have practiced, I am no longer having to be reactionary and impulsive in my decision making, which is allowing me the benefit of making better decisions for myself. We addressed many issues in group. I am discovering that my long history of criminal conduct and alcohol/drug use had caused me a tremendous amount of distorted thinking, which has in turn led to a multitude of false beliefs and general poor attitudes. I am less fearful of the challenge to change at this point."

"This program has saved my life. It has made me realize I have tools to deal with the world as an addict. I feel safe and more confident expressing my feelings in group and know I'm not alone anymore. I am getting the support and understanding I need. Finally I get it!"

Feedback from Money Management

"Useful information, very knowledgeable instructor. I now have a better understanding of credit. This class helps with a lot of problems and helps you deal with or change them. I learned ways to control my money. Informative, good information that was up to date.”

“[The best thing about the program was] doing my budget statement, because I knew where my money went.”

General Comments

“[The best thing about the program was] that they allowed a person to have and be able to work more than one job to meet his or her financial goals.”

“Being in ComCor gave me a change. If you have not been in jail, it makes you realize how close you were. It is a good wake-up call.”

“Thanks for giving me the opportunity to rehabilitate through your program.”

"This program was a good program. I got a lot out of it.”

“Some forms of corrections aren’t right for all people. ComCor is good for people with families. I felt this program was saving my life and my marriage.”

“I appreciated the firmness and fairness of the techs, supervisors and case managers because no one was treated differently from anyone else. Everyone was treated equally.”

“All personnel at the nonres center were very professional in every way. My case manager was very understanding with my personal needs.”

“It is my belief that ComCor offers a unique and positive service to our community. It is a chance for wayward souls to maybe get it right. However it was a chance that I personally was denied.” (Returned to jail for bringing contraband on grounds.)

“My case manager was the best I’ve ever experienced.”
