Real alternatives to incarceration, which take into account the needs and risks of the offender. |
Greetings, attorneys. Whether you are a prosecuting attorney or a defense attorney, ComCor, Inc. offers real alternatives to offender incarceration, while taking into account the particular needs and risks of the offender involved. |
| |
| PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS |
For prosecuting attorneys, ComCor offers the traditional criminal justice sanctions, mandates and controls. However, ComCor is not a closed, locked- down facility, so certain types of higher-risk clients are not eligible for placement.
We hold each client accountable. Accountability takes many different forms. At the very least it means the client notifies ComCor of his or her location, most often during work hours. Depending on the type of offender and placement, the client may be eligible for other passes to attend meetings or church, pay restitution, confer with an attorney, etc. |
| |
| Expectations Made of Clients : |
- Clients are expected to work.
- Clients are expected to be substance-free. (ComCor conducts searches and substance-abuse testing on a random basis.)
- Clients are expected to be where they said they would be. (ComCor performs regular checks.)
Court Mandates & Criteria
Although clients bear the primary responsibility for carrying out court mandates, ComCor ensures that they do so, and violations will often trigger notification of the duly authorized authority. Visit the El Paso County Justice Services Web site or the Offender Placement PDF for criteria mandated by the El Paso County Community Corrections Board. In most programs, with the exception of the El Paso Work Release Program and certain electronic monitoring programs, ComCor has the right to review the client for placement at a ComCor facility. ComCor evaluates each client carefully to determine risk and appropriateness for placement in a community-based corrections program.

| DEFENSE ATTORNEYS |
For defense attorneys, ComCor offers a number of opportunities that may be in the best interest of their clients. ComCor allows a degree of freedom not available to clients who are incarcerated. Obviously this allows the client to work and to interact with family members and other positive support structures in the community. It also provides an opportunity for the offender to support his or her family.
Although there are limitations and the clients are required to follow court sanctions and mandates as well as ComCor rules, ComCor offers more opportunity than traditional incarceration. The greatest potential benefit is the ability to take advantage of all the treatment services and treatment programs that ComCor offers. This allows your client to develop skills needed to become a productive member of society and avoid further involvement with the criminal justice system. With the exception of a $25 fee for treatment services and $35 per week for sex offender treatment, ComCor does not charge additional fees for the large array of treatment groups available to clients.
Go to the El Paso County Justice Services Web site or the Offender Placement PDF for complete list of criteria or click on the link for correctional programs to see where your client may be eligible for placement. Please note that the criteria at this Justice Services Web site apply only to clients sentenced by the district court to the Diversion program or relocated from the Colorado Department of Corrections into the Transition program. |
